The Artist Behind MixYourShot

About Me

Welcome! I am Raffaele Cabras Keller, the artist behind MixYourShot Fine Art. Many thanks for your interest in my work!

I am a Swiss-Italian award-winning landscape photographer and the founder of MixYourShot Fine Art and the Swiss School of Photography, where I share my passion and knowledge with aspiring photographers.

I’m self-taught artist, with a background in computer engineering and digital forensics. Over time, photography became far more than a creative outlet, it became a way to reconnect with nature and explore the untouched beauty of our planet.

Every artwork I create is meant to bring you here with me, to the moment when I captured it.

After many years in the tech industry, I now run my own cybersecurity company. But increasingly, my energy is devoted to photography: exploring nature, creating fine art prints, and spending more time in places that truly inspire me.

My limited edition prints are created in some of the world’s most powerful landscapes from Iceland and the Scottish Highlands to the Swiss Alps, New Zealand, and beyond. My goal as a nature photographer is to offer perspectives of the world that often go unnoticed, through careful composition, light, and the unique character of each location.

Each piece is crafted to the highest archival standards and offered in luxurious, museum-grade formats for collectors and enthusiasts of nature-inspired art. This space offers a glimpse into my creative process, values, and the meticulous care behind every photograph that becomes a limited edition print.

From a Forensic Lab to Discovering the World

I’m a self-taught photographer, but my path began in a very unconventional way. With a background in computer engineering and digital forensics, I wrote algorithms to reconstruct crime scenes and enhance photographic evidence. I was building tools to reveal hidden details, not to make art.

But over time, my focus shifted. That technical foundation became the base for something creative. I started applying the same curiosity and precision to landscape photography and fine art printmaking. The transition was gradual, but life-changing.

It took years of study, trial and error, countless sunsets, and nights out in the cold to truly understand light, timing, and the craft.

And it took even longer to admit that maybe, I was becoming an artist.

Teaching and Sharing the Craft

My wife was my first student. When I gave her her first camera, she asked me to teach her, but only what she actually needed to know. That moment was eye-opening. I realized that much of what I had spent years learning was overcomplicated and full of technical noise.

So I stripped it down, focused on the creative tools that matter, and we spent one day in the field. By the end of it, she was confident, independent, and already seeing the world with new eyes.Very quickly, I found myself admiring her work. She became an incredible artist in her own right. You can explore her amazing work at NikaKeller.art. One day, she asked me: “Why don’t you teach other people like this?” That simple question planted the seed for what would become the Swiss School of Photography, that we founded together in Zurich.

Since 2018, we’ve shared our passion with hundreds of students through workshops in Zurich and on-location photo tours around the world. Photography became the reason to travel. And from where it all began, what an incredible way to discover the world it turned out to be.

Teaching reminds me where I started and why I still love this work.

MixYourShot: From Creative Process to Fine Art Prints

The name MixYourShot itself originated as a reflection of my process: mixing media, techniques, and ideas. From early experiments with long exposures and spray paint to writing my own HDR software, I’ve always been driven by curiosity and hands-on exploration.

In 2008, I launched mixyourshot.com as a blog to share my photographic experiments, ideas, and tutorials. Although I started with analog photography, it was the digital revolution and the editing capabilities that truly drew me in. Finally, I could transform my photos into what I wanted, into what I pictured in my head.

MixYourShot became the diary of my creative journey.

As I began traveling and photographing remote landscapes, MixYourShot evolved into a way to share those discoveries. Today, it’s my platform for presenting museum-grade limited edition prints that reflect both my artistic expression and evolution.

Over the years, I’ve photographed some of the most powerful and remote landscapes on Earth. My work is shaped by time spent in the field, by the effort it takes to reach these places and the patience to wait for the right moment. From Iceland’s volcanic coastlines to the Dolomites, the Swiss Alps, the highlands of Scotland, and the far reaches of New Zealand, Indonesia, and Kenya - each location added a new layer to how I see.

My goal is to create images that carry the emotion of a place and offer lasting meaning to those who collect them. Each experience reinforces my appreciation for the beauty and wonder of our world, strengthening my dedication to capturing these genuine moments for others to appreciate.

Each print holds a piece of that journey.

For Collectors

Each limited edition print in the MixYourShot Fine Art collection is crafted to museum standards, using archival materials and the finest printing techniques available today. My goal is to offer work that not only speaks to the emotion and story of a place, but also brings lasting value to collectors and art lovers around the world.

Every photograph you see here was made with intent - often over the course of multiple days or even years of returning to the same location, waiting for the right moment. It’s work shaped by time, experience, and respect for the landscapes I photograph.

When you collect a piece from this series, you’re collecting the experience that created it.

MixYourShot UNIQUES#

In addition to my limited edition prints, I also create one-of-a-kind works that reflect the full range of my artistic voice known as MixYourShot UNIQUES#, a personal series where photography meets painting.

No two are alike. Each piece is individually crafted, never reproduced, and titled by number in the order it was created, marking its unique place in the evolution of my work.

When the creative process leads beyond the photographic frame, this is where it goes: into physical, tactile compositions where light, texture, and emotion come together.

Recognition & Press

Over the years, my work has been recognized by international photography contests, featured in industry publications, and exhibited across Europe. One of the most meaningful milestones was receiving in 2017 the Gold Medal for Landscape – World Travel at the Trierenberg Super Circuit, one of the most prestigious and competitive photo salons in the world. That recognition felt like a turning point, a confirmation that years of effort in the field were becoming something others could connect with.

In addition to Trierenberg, my photographs have received top prizes at the MIFA, IPOTY – International Photographer of the Year, and other minor competition. I’ve had the honor of exhibiting my work in Zurich, Neuchâtel, London, Berlin, and Milan.

My creative approach and fieldwork have been featured by platforms such as Datacolor, Baubible, Skylum, SLR Lounge, Fstoppers, DIY Photography, DigitalPHOTO Magazine, and T-Online. These collaborations, interviews, and articles have given me the chance to share not just images, but the process, curiosity, and technical grounding behind them.

Today, I’m proud to serve as a brand ambassador for Skylum, Datacolor, and f-stop Gear, companies whose values and tools support my pursuit of quality in both photography and education.
